The Small Steps Mission

To provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families.

Our Program

We operate two preschools for economically at-risk children living in the Fifth Ward and Gulfton/Sharpstown communities of inner-city Houston, Texas.

We provide a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages two through six living in poverty. Small Steps offers our program at no cost to families. Small Steps uses proven interventions to help narrow the opportunity gap and create a community of support for our students and families.

How To Support Small Steps:

Volunteer Opportunity

Prayer Partner

Each Prayer Partner is assigned an individual Small Steps student to pray for throughout the school year. We ask that Prayer Partners spend at least 30 minutes each week praying for the Lord’s blessing, guidance, protection, and strength for his/her Small Steps student. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to be an integral part of the work the Lord is doing in our students’ lives!

Clays Classic

02/23/2023

The Small Steps Clays Classic was started in 2003 to help fund the construction of Small Steps’ second school in the Fifth Ward. Building upon the momentum of the Energy Classic, the Clays Classic grew in its success and has become an annual draw for many prominent companies. In 2023, over 60 corporations, foundations, and individuals came together to sponsor the Clays Classic in support of Houston’s economically at-risk children.
