100 days of learning!

February 15th marked the 100th day of school at Small Steps for the 2023-2024 school year, with students celebrating all they have learned this year! We are so proud of how much they’ve grown!

We have broken ground!

Thanks to the generosity of so many donors, we have begun the expansion of our Fifth Ward campus! Small Steps will grow to serve more students in the next school year!

Joy to the world!

Our students participated in the annual Christmas chapel performance, singing holiday carols and acting out the story of the Nativity!

The Small Steps Mission

To provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families.

Our Program

We operate two preschools for economically at-risk children living in the Fifth Ward and Gulfton/Sharpstown communities of inner-city Houston, Texas.

We provide a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages two through six living in poverty. Small Steps offers our program at no cost to families. Small Steps uses proven interventions to help narrow the opportunity gap and create a community of support for our students and families.

How To Support Small Steps:

Volunteer Opportunity

Buddy Program

The buddy program allows volunteers the opportunity to build a special one-on-one friendship with a Small Steps student. A volunteer spends 30 minutes each week with their Smalls Steps Buddy engaged in child-directed play. Many buddy friendships last for the duration of the student’s tenure at Small Steps, though we only ask for a school year commitment.
