Our Mission
To provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families.
Our Program
Small Steps Nurturing Center operates two preschools for economically at-risk children living in the Fifth Ward and surrounding areas of inner-city Houston, Texas. We provide a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages two through six living in poverty. Small Steps operates five days a week, nine months each year (plus one month of summer enrichment), at no financial cost to the families we serve. Small Steps uses proven interventions to help narrow the knowledge gap and create a community of support for our students and families. Small Steps serves approximately 180 children at our two existing campuses and will open a third campus in January 2021.

How to Help Small Steps
Small Steps depends on private donations from generous donors, including individuals, corporations, churches, community groups, and foundations. Help from the community is essential to continue our program.
Prayer Partner
This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to be an integral part of the work the Lord is doing in our students’ lives! Each Prayer Partner is assigned an individual Small Steps student to pray for throughout the school year.
