Support Small Steps by volunteering your time!

Small Steps’ mission would not be possible without the support of our community. We are grateful to have hundreds of volunteers a year working to enrich our students’ education. Your time and efforts help us create the nurturing environment that makes Small Steps so special.

Prior to volunteering with our students, volunteers may need to complete a background check form, which requires a social security number.

Volunteer Opportunities

Buddy Program
Buddy Program

The buddy program allows volunteers the opportunity to build a special one-on-one friendship with a Small Steps student.

A volunteer spends 30 minutes each week with their Smalls Steps Buddy engaged in child-directed play. Many buddy friendships last for the duration of the student’s tenure at Small Steps, though we only ask for a school year commitment.

  • Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.; 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    (Your 30-minute recurring time will fall in these windows and would be coordinated with the Community Outreach Manager.)
  • 30 minutes per week (same day/time each week), every week for 1 full school year
  • 1.5 Hour Training on SET for Life
    A background check (possibly fingerprinting)
    14 years or older
Prayer Partners
Prayer Partners

Prayer Partners are assigned an individual Small Steps student to pray for throughout the school year.

We ask that Prayer Partners spend at least 30 minutes each week praying for the Lord’s blessing, guidance, protection, and strength for his/her Small Steps student. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to be an integral part of the work the Lord is doing in our students’ lives!

  • Any time (completed at home)
  • 30 minutes per week
  • None!
School Events
School Events

Small Steps hosts special events at our campuses throughout the year.

For some of these events, we need extra hands to provide support!

  • Weekdays during the school day
  • One time commitment
  • Brief volunteer training prior to event starting
    14 years or older
Work Days
Work Days

Volunteers help Small Steps in many significant ways, including participating in on-site work projects on specific weekends.

Projects may include: gardening, playground beautification, and building maintenance.

  • Saturday mornings (limited weekends available)
  • One time commitment
  • 14 years or older
