Clays Classic

The Small Steps Clays Classic was started in 2003 to help fund the construction of Small Steps’ second school in the Fifth Ward.

Building upon the momentum of the Energy Classic, the Clays Classic grew in its success and has become an annual draw for many prominent companies. In 2025, over 60 corporations, foundations, and individuals came together to sponsor the Clays Classic in support of Houston’s economically at-risk children.
The tournament format, designed by Gil Ash, consists of 100 targets at 10 stations. Additionally, each participant has the opportunity to participate in shooting games throughout the day. Following the tournament, all participants are invited to the dinner and awards ceremony. A significant number of door prizes are awarded at the conclusion of dinner.

Small Steps Nurturing Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The difference between the amount of your payment and the amount of goods and services received may be deductible as a charitable contribution. We estimate the fair market value for the Clays Classic is $400 per person or $1,600 per four person team. Small Steps’ EIN is 76-0471755.
